4th Pancreatic Cancer Walk

ParamCARE foundation cosponsored the fourth annual Pancreatic Cancer Walk 2012, which was held at Roosevelt Park in Edison, New Jersey with Middlesex County Office of Health Services. This event is held annually to increase awareness about this deadly disease and generate funds for various clinical trials conducted on pancreatic cancer by the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Middlesex County Free Holder Deputy Director Ronald G Rios inaugurated the event. Also present at the event were Freeholder Charles E. Tomaro, U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., Freeholder Carol Barrett Bellante, Edison Mayor Antonia Ricigliano and Dr. Edmund Lattime, Deputy Director of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Nearly 250 people were in attendance at the event. This year apart from raising funds, we also provided free T-shirts and healthy refreshments for the participants.

Bone Marrow Drive

ParamCARE Foundation hosted a Bone marrow drive at its facility in Iselin on 19th December 2012 in honor of Dr. Nalini Ambady, a lady of South Asian origin who was in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant as a result of relapse of her leukemia. The participants who attended the event provided their cheek swab samples and became registered donors of the “Be the Match” donor registry, a National marrow donor program. Through registration into this program one can become a potential match for anybody that is in urgent need of a compatible donor, especially in current situation in which there is a critical shortage for bone marrow donors from people of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. This event is also intended to spread awareness in the community about the importance of Bone marrow donation and thereby eliminate the barrier that exists.

Preparing Today for Tomorrow

Param CARE foundation partnered with Aging in Place partnership, a nonprofit organization dedicated to senior advocacy and innovation for the elderly, in conducting the Preparing Today for tomorrow, an event held at South Brunswick Senior Center on 20th October, 2012. The purpose of the event was to provide information on various services and resources that are available for seniors, to facilitate safe and healthy aging at home, an environment they are comfortable in. On behalf of ParamCARE Foundation, information and brochures on Home health services and family caregiver training program, that empower the member of the family to function successfully as a care giver was provided.

Healthy Living

Healthy Living: ParamCARE foundation organized a nutritional education program for the community in September focusing on improving awareness about need for consuming a healthy balanced diet and staying physically active especially from childhood to reduce the burden of obesity and other chronic diseases. Apart from lectures cooking demonstration was done on making healthy snacks and handouts on healthy recipes were distributed to the participants.

Healthcare Talent Network Event

ParamCARE were proud to be a part of the job fair held at Raritan Valley Community College on 23rdAugust 2012 by the Healthcare Talent Network, an initiative funded by New Jersey department of Labor and Workforce Development in partnership with Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations. The purpose of the event was to create an opportunity for prospective students and job seekers to meet with education providers, career counselors, various professional organizations and health care industry employers and acquire knowledge on various resources and educational opportunities available that would aid them in making their career related decision . There was also an opportunity for them to get to know about the special state grants provided for training and education while they are unemployed.
We from ParamCARE got opportunity to apprise the attendees, of the various educational courses we offer like the training for becoming Certified Nurse Aid, Certified Home Health Aid & Pharmacy technician and also about courses on medical billing & coding and phlebotomy that are state approved and also approved by respective boards. They were also briefed about our post certification job placement services and the healthcare staffing services we provide for placement of registered nurse, certified nursing assistants, home health aide, pharmacy technician and licensed practical nurse. Information was also provided on the free career counseling services that are offered by us regularly. The event was well received by the attendees who showed utmost interest in learning about the various educational and career resources available.

Focus Group for Healthcare Needs Assessment

ParamCARE foundation in association with UMDNJ –RWJMS conducted focus groups in Middlesex and Somerset counties of New Jersey to understand the experiences in getting healthcare among the Gujarati and Hindi speaking population of the community. The focus group in Hindi was conducted at ParamCARE facility located in 200 Middlesex Essex Turnpike in Iselin, NJ on 25th July 2012 and the Gujarati focus group was conducted in Chutney Mary Restaurant in Monmouth Junction, NJ on 26th July 2012. There was equal representation of both men and women of all age groups with the seniors showing increased interest in being a part of the event. The participants were very enthusiastic in expressing their views during discussion on various healthcare topics and also came up with lots of interesting ideas and suggestions for improving healthcare delivery and facilities.

Choose Your Cover

ParamCARE foundation partnered with Middlesex County Office of Health services in conducting “Choose your cover 2012”, a skin cancer screening and awareness event, that was held at Crystal springs aquatic center in East Brunswick, New Jersey on 24th June 2012. Registered Nurses from ParamCARE foundation provided the cancer screening services and free sunscreen lotions were distributed to the visitors. The participants were screened for suspicious skin lesions, educated on sun protection measures and provided information on how to have followed up in required situations. They were also provided educational materials on various skin cancers, sun safety and UV protection measures.

Edison Family Day

Edison Municipal Alliance & Youth Services Commission, Edison Chamber of Commerce and Edison Township Council hosted the 22nd Annual Edison Family Day on Sunday May 20th 2012 at the NJ Convention and Exposition Center at 97 Sunfield Ave, Raritan Center, New Jersey. ParamCARE foundation co-sponsored the event and also participated in the health fair. Free educational materials were distributed on various cancers, latest screening recommendations & importance of diet and physical activity in disease prevention.

Healthy Kids Day

ParamCARE Foundation celebrated the Healthy Kids Day, a national initiative by the Y to improve the health and well -being of kids, filled with fun, active play and educational activities that will help parents improve their lifestyles of kids on a long term. This event was held at Raritan Bay Area on 28th April, 2012. ParamCARE Foundation provided free Nutrition Counseling and live demonstrations on easy, healthy snack preparation for participants to learn and make at home. The aim was to make an emphasis  on utilizing the youth as educators themselves,  not just as receivers of the educations, believing that they are a big influence on parents’ choices and that the message  will be taken and shared at home.

Nutrition for the Elderly

ParamCARE Foundation conducted Nutrition for the Elderly program at South Amboy Day Care Center on 30th January, 2012. Also present at the event was a health educator form Middlesex County Department of Health. The event was mainly targeted for the benefit of the seniors in the community. Our Registered Dietician Ms. D. Patel educated the participants on what a healthy diet is, about healthy and unhealthy fats, and role of nutrition in cancer prevention, diabetes and blood cholesterol management. It was a very interactive session and was held in Indian languages of Hindi and Gujarati. At the end of the session all the participants were given educational materials on Healthy Diet and Physical activity.
